New Delhi: In a significant setback for Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Supreme Court refrained from granting him any respite in the ongoing excise policy case. On Monday, the apex court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and mandated a response by April 24. The next hearing is scheduled for April 29.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, articulated the Chief Minister’s predicament, stating that his client was being unjustly detained, hindering his ability to participate in election campaigning. “I wanted to campaign for election,” Kejriwal’s plea resonated in the courtroom.
However, the Supreme Court remained firm, declining the request for Kejriwal’s release from custody solely for the purpose of election campaigning.
