Amman: According to two regional security sources, Jordan’s air defenses stand prepared to intercept and take down any Iranian drones or aircraft breaching its airspace. The country’s army remains on high alert, with radar systems actively monitoring drone activities originating from Iraq and Syria.
Reports from residents in various cities across northern, central, and southern Jordan suggest heightened aerial movements. A security source confirms that the nation’s air force has escalated reconnaissance flights to maintain vigilance.

Jordan’s decision to close its airspace on Saturday night to all incoming, departing, and transiting aircraft underscores its proactive stance against potential threats from neighboring conflict zones. With Syria and Iraq serving as battlegrounds for Iranian proxy forces, and in close proximity to Israel and the Israeli-occupied West Bank, Jordan remains acutely aware of the regional dynamics.
Concerns have escalated, particularly in light of Israel’s recent military engagements with Hamas, an Iranian ally. Jordan aims to avoid being inadvertently drawn into any crossfire.
In late 2023, Jordan formally requested assistance from the United States, seeking to bolster its border defenses by deploying Patriot air defense systems. The Pentagon’s response included an increase in military aid to Jordan, a key regional ally. Hundreds of U.S. troops stationed in Jordan engage in regular exercises with the Jordanian army, solidifying the strategic partnership between the two nations.
