Hollywood Star Jonathan Majors to be Sentenced Following Assault Verdict

New York: Jonathan Majors, once a rising star in Hollywood, is set to face sentencing following his conviction on charges of domestic violence. The actor, known for his roles in notable films, including “The Last Black Man in San Francisco”, “Creed III”, and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, is expected to appear before Justice Michael Gaffey of the state Supreme Court in Manhattan on Monday.

Majors, 34, was found guilty on Dec. 18 of third-degree assault and second-degree harassment stemming from an incident involving his girlfriend in the back of an SUV. While the charges don’t carry felony status, Majors could face up to one year in jail. Despite being acquitted on two other charges, his legal issues have taken a toll on his career.

The fallout from the conviction has led to severed ties with Marvel Studios, effectively ending his role as Kang the Conqueror in the “Quantumania” series and the anticipated 2026 release, “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty”. Additionally, Disney removed another project starring Majors, “Magazine Dreams”, from its release calendar last October.

The criminal case originated from a March 2023 altercation that left Majors’ then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, with injuries including a broken finger and swollen arm and ear. Jabbari testified that Majors became violent after she discovered a text message from another woman on his phone, alleging that he twisted her arm and struck her in the head. She described Majors as having a “violent temper” and recounted other instances of explosive anger.

Despite Majors not taking the stand, his lawyer claimed Jabbari initiated the violence and falsely accused Majors after their breakup. However, last week, the judge dismissed Majors’ attempt to overturn the conviction, stating that the jury could reasonably conclude that Majors caused injury to Jabbari during their altercation over the phone.
