Mumbai: Amid swirling speculations about his potential entry into politics, actor Sanjay Dutt has set the record straight. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday, the actor clarified his stance on the matter. He asserted that should he decide to delve into the political realm, he “will be the first one to announce it.”
Sanjay Dutt’s Response to Political Joining Rumours
Sanjay Dutt’s tweet dispelled the rumors, stating, “I would like to put all rumours about me joining politics to rest. I am not joining any party or contesting elections. If I do decide to step into the political arena then I will be the first one to announce it. Please refrain from believing what is being circulated in the news about me as of now.”
Public Reaction to Sanjay Dutt’s Statement
The actor’s followers and fans expressed a mix of opinions on his tweet. One fan urged, “Don’t join politics or any political party. You are a great actor & we want to see you as an actor the rest of the time. You are in our hearts as a great actor.” Another commented, “Pls don’t join politics… It’s worse for celebrities. Being your fan I request you are doing great in films pls avoid the election.” Yet another tweet simply stated, “Welcome your decision.”
Sanjay Dutt’s History with Politics
This isn’t the first instance where Sanjay Dutt has quashed speculations about his political ambitions. In 2019, according to the Free Press Journal, he refuted Maharashtra minister Mahadev Jankar’s assertion that he was set to join the Rashtriya Samaj Paksha. Moreover, a close associate had once persuaded him to run in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections as a candidate for the Samajwadi Party. However, he withdrew from the race. He was subsequently appointed as the general secretary of the Samajwadi Party but resigned from the post in December 2010. Notably, Sanjay Dutt’s late father, actor Sunil Dutt, was a member of the Congress Party.

Sanjay Dutt’s Upcoming Movie Projects
On the professional front, fans can look forward to seeing Sanjay Dutt in the upcoming sci-fi horror comedy film The Virgin Tree, which also stars Sunny Singh, Mouni Roy, and Palak Tiwari. Additionally, he is set to appear in Welcome To The Jungle, alongside Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, and Disha Patani. The latter film is slated for a theatrical release on December 20, 2024.
