Dhanush and Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth Officially File for Divorce After 18 Years of Marriage: Reports

Chennai: After 18 years of marriage, Dhanush and Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth, prominent figures in the Indian entertainment industry, have formally initiated divorce proceedings. The news, reported by India Today, marks a significant development in their relationship, which began in 2004.

According to sources cited by India Today, the couple submitted their divorce petition under Section 13 B, which pertains to divorce by mutual consent, at the Chennai family court recently. Their case is expected to proceed to hearings in the near future. It’s been noted that Dhanush and Aishwaryaa have been residing separately for the past two years.

The decision to file for divorce comes over two years after they publicly announced their separation in 2022. The announcement, conveyed through heartfelt messages on social media platforms, reflected on their shared journey and expressed a mutual understanding to part ways. Dhanush expressed their decision in a note shared on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting, and adapting.” He further added, “Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand ourselves as individuals for the better.”

Aishwaryaa echoed the sentiment in her Instagram post, captioning it with, “No caption needed…only your understanding n your love necessary!”

Their union, which began in 2004, resulted in two sons, Yatra and Linga, born in 2006 and 2010, respectively. Despite their separation, the couple has continued to co-parent their children and have been observed attending their sons’ school events together.

In the wake of their personal developments, both Dhanush and Aishwaryaa have been active in their professional endeavors. Aishwaryaa returned to filmmaking with “Lal Salaam”, featuring a cameo by her father, Rajinikanth, alongside Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth. Meanwhile, Dhanush appeared in “Captain Miller”, which premiered on Prime Video on February 9. He’s also gearing up to portray music maestro Ilaiyaraaja in an upcoming biopic directed by Arun Matheswaran.
