Ukraine’s Plea for Aid: Zelensky Warns of Defeat Without US Support

Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a stark warning on Sunday, emphasizing that Kyiv’s ability to withstand Russia’s invasion hinges on receiving military aid from the US Congress.

Zelensky stressed the critical importance of securing assistance from Congress, noting that the ongoing conflict with Moscow would turn against Ukraine if vital military aid is withheld. Republicans in Congress have been obstructing the approval of tens of billions of dollars in military assistance for Kyiv, heightening the urgency of Zelensky’s plea.

During a video conference hosted by the Kyiv-organized fundraising platform United24, Zelensky urged Congress to recognize the dire consequences of inaction, stating unequivocally, “If Congress does not help Ukraine, Ukraine will lose the war.”

Highlighting the indispensable role of external support, Zelensky underscored the immense challenges Ukraine faces in sustaining its defense efforts without crucial aid. He cautioned that the consequences of defeat would extend beyond Ukraine’s borders, potentially emboldening further aggression from Russia against neighboring states.

As the conflict in Ukraine rages on, reports emerged of fresh casualties inflicted by Russian attacks. In the southern Zaporizhzhia region, a Russian strike on the town of Gulyaipole claimed the lives of three civilians, including two men and a woman, who perished when their home was hit by a Russian shell.

Meanwhile, in the northeastern Kharkiv region, a woman lost her life in the city of Kupiansk after sustaining injuries in an attack on a residential building. The escalation of violence in Kharkiv saw five additional civilians wounded in a separate assault, exacerbating the toll on civilian lives.

Amidst the ongoing hostilities, Russia claimed to have destroyed 15 Ukrainian drones over its border regions of Belgorod and Bryansk. Tragically, a young woman lost her life in the village of Shagarovka, as shrapnel from the drone strikes struck a car carrying a family of six. The incident underscores the indiscriminate nature of the conflict and its devastating impact on innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
