Rishi Sunak’s Tories on Edge: Survey Predicts Potential Wipeout

London: With the UK gearing up for imminent national elections, the Conservative Party finds itself staring down the barrel of a potential electoral wipeout reminiscent of Labour Party’s Tony Blair’s ascension to Prime Ministership in 1997. Recent surveys paint a grim picture for the Tories, signaling the possible end of their decade-long rule under Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

According to a poll conducted by YourGov in the UK, the Conservative Party, in power since 2010, is projected to secure a mere 155 seats in the upcoming general elections. This starkly contrasts with their landslide victory of 365 seats in 2019 under the leadership of Boris Johnson.

In contrast, YourGov’s projections foresee the Labour Party, led by Keir Starmer, sweeping to victory with a staggering 403 seats, doubling their 2019 tally.

These projections instill fear within the Conservative ranks, raising concerns of an end to their 10-year dominance in UK politics, potentially marking a rout worse than that experienced in 1997.

In the 1997 elections, the Conservatives suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Tony Blair’s Labour Party, which secured a landslide victory with 418 seats. Blair’s ascension to Prime Ministership marked the end of the Tories’ 18-year reign in power.

The latest polls paint a bleak picture for Indian-origin Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, with forecasts suggesting a potential outcome worse than John Major’s defeat, securing a mere 165 seats.

Ahead of the national elections, the Tories are bracing themselves for the upcoming local elections on May 2, where poll predictions indicate a challenging landscape for the party.

Rishi Sunak’s popularity, both within the UK and among his party members, has plummeted to an all-time low. The Prime Minister of Indian descent faces the looming threat of rebellion from his MPs over proposed legislation aimed at criminalizing homelessness in the United Kingdom.
