Dubai Police’s rigorous campaign to combat begging during Ramadan has resulted in the apprehension of individuals taking advantage of charitable sentiments. Notably, a woman was arrested for exploiting her infant son to solicit over Dh30,000 from the public.
Officers are strategically deployed throughout the emirate, focusing on areas frequented by beggars to enforce the law. Begging is strictly prohibited in the UAE, carrying penalties such as imprisonment and fines. In cases of organized begging orchestrated by criminal networks, harsher punishments apply.
Moreover, soliciting donations through social media platforms without official authorization is a violation of cybercrime laws and can result in significant fines. Dubai Police has taken swift action, detaining several individuals involved in illegal begging activities, including those participating in organized schemes.
Brigadier Ali Al Shamsi highlighted instances where suspects were found in possession of substantial sums obtained through illicit means, underscoring the police force’s unwavering commitment to combatting such criminal behavior.
