AR Rahman and Prabhu Deva Reunite for ARRPD6: A Cinematic Collaboration After 25 Years

Mumbai: Two of India’s most celebrated artists, AR Rahman and Prabhu Deva, are set to collaborate on a film project, marking their return to working together after a gap of 25 years. Titled ARRPD6, the film is the brainchild of writer and director Manoj NS. Rahman took to social media on Friday, 22 March, to announce the film’s title and unveil its poster.

The poster, shared by Rahman, showcases an iconic image of Prabhu Deva from the hit song “Muqabla”, with Rahman’s golden silhouette against the backdrop of the sky.

The ensemble cast of ARRPD6 boasts of Prabhu Deva, Yogi Babu, and Malayalam actors Aju Varghese and Arjun Ashokan in significant roles. Motta Rajendran and Redin Kingsley are also part of the film’s cast.

Behindwoods is presenting the film, produced by Manoj NS, Divya Manoj, and Dr. Praveen Elak. Rahman will be composing the music for the film, while Anup V Shylaya will handle the cinematography. With filming set to commence soon, ARRPD6 will mark the sixth collaboration between Rahman and Prabhu Deva.

Previous Blockbusters

The duo’s previous works from the 1990s, known for their captivating music and dance combinations, continue to be celebrated. Chart-topping songs from the Tamil film Kadhalan (1994), such as “Muqabla” and “Urvashi”, became massive hits. These tracks, along with their Hindi and Telugu versions, ruled the charts and inspired countless fans to mimic Prabhu Deva’s electrifying dance moves.

Their other hit collaborations include “Chiku Buku Raile” from Gentleman (1993), “Romeo Aatam” from Mr Romeo (1996), and “Petta Rap” from Kadhalan, which remained chartbusters for years.

On the professional front, Rahman’s music for Prithviraj Sukumaran’s much-anticipated film Aadujeevitham has been generating significant buzz online ahead of its release on 29 March in multiple languages.

Meanwhile, Prabhu Deva is busy with Vishnu Manchu’s upcoming film Kannappa. He recently returned from New Zealand after wrapping up a song shoot and filming several crucial scenes for the movie.
