Microsoft Taps Google DeepMind Co-Founder as CEO of New AI Division, Signals Future Innovations

New York: In the fast-paced realm of artificial intelligence (AI), tech giants Microsoft and Google have continually pushed boundaries. Recently, both unveiled their AI chatbots, CoPilot (formerly Bing) and Gemini (formerly Bard), within days of each other, showcasing ongoing enhancements.

Co-Pilot now boasts features like chat history storage, voice shortcuts, and image editing capabilities, while Gemini excels at content editing and image generation. Microsoft is now poised to deepen its commitment to generative AI with the establishment of a dedicated AI division.

In a strategic move, Microsoft has appointed Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of Google DeepMind, to spearhead this ambitious venture.

Suleyman, previously at DeepMind overseeing applied AI, took to his social media handle to share the news of his transition to Microsoft. Expressing his enthusiasm, he revealed plans to lead Microsoft’s AI division, with fellow InflectionAI colleagues, including co-founder Karen Simonyan, joining him. Suleyman assured the continuity of InflectionAI’s mission under a new CEO while emphasizing the significant milestones ahead.

“I’m excited to announce that today I’m joining @Microsoft as CEO of Microsoft AI. I’ll be leading all consumer AI products and research, including Copilot, Bing, and Edge. My friend and longtime collaborator Karen Simonyan will be Chief Scientist, and several of our amazing teammates have chosen to join us. @InflectionAI will continue on its mission under a new CEO, and look to reach more people than ever by making its API widely available to developers and businesses the world over. It’s been an amazing journey, with so much more to come. Thank you to everyone for your support. Things really are just getting started,” read his post.
