On this day in history, March 16, 2012, Sachin Tendulkar etched his name in cricketing folklore by becoming the first batsman to achieve the remarkable feat of scoring 100 international centuries. The iconic moment unfolded during India’s Asia Cup 2012 clash against Bangladesh, captained by Mushfiqur Rahim, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Taking the field as an opener, Tendulkar displayed his class, crafting a majestic innings of 114 runs off 147 deliveries, adorned with 12 boundaries and a towering six. Following the early dismissal of Gautam Gambhir, Tendulkar, alongside Virat Kohli, resurrected India’s innings with a commanding 148-run partnership.
Tendulkar reached his fifty in 63 deliveries before meticulously constructing his century in 139 balls. However, his innings was curtailed by the legendary Bangladesh skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza, in the 47th over of the Indian innings.
