Immediate Ceasefire Urged in Gaza Crisis: U.S. Vice President Calls for Action

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris calls for an immediate six-week ceasefire in Gaza. Harris urges Palestinian militant group Hamas to accept the ceasefire deal on the table. UN Relief and Works Agency describes Gaza as "hell on earth" with reports of at least 10 children dying of malnutrition in recent days.

In a powerful address, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has demanded an immediate six-week ceasefire in Gaza, urging the Palestinian militant group Hamas to accept the deal on the table. Harris’s remarks come amidst escalating tensions and humanitarian concerns in the region.

Speaking from Selma, Alabama, Harris emphasized the urgent need for action, stating, “Given the immense scale of suffering in Gaza, there must be an immediate ceasefire. There is a deal on the table, and as we have said, Hamas needs to agree to that deal. Let’s get a ceasefire.”

Harris also directed attention to the dire situation unfolding in Gaza, where she described innocent people as enduring a “humanitarian catastrophe.” The UN Relief and Works Agency echoed this sentiment, labeling Gaza as “hell on earth” and reporting the tragic deaths of at least 10 children due to malnutrition in recent days.

However, amidst calls for peace, Israel’s defense minister remains steadfast in their stance against Hamas. They asserted, “We will not end this war without eliminating Hamas,” indicating a determined effort to remove Hamas as a ruling organization, regardless of the time it may take.

Given the immense scale of suffering in Gaza, there must be an immediate ceasefire,” Harris said at an event in Selma, Alabama.

Harris further emphasized the need for increased aid flow into Gaza, stressing that the Israeli government must do more to alleviate the dire conditions. “People in Gaza are starving. The conditions are inhumane, and our common humanity compels us to act…The Israeli government must do more to significantly increase the flow of aid. No excuses,” she asserted.

The Vice President’s strong comments signal a heightened level of engagement from the U.S. government in addressing the crisis in Gaza, with a clear call for immediate action to alleviate the suffering of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
