New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the ‘Bharat Tex 2024’ textile event at Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam on Monday, hailed his government’s strides in bolstering India’s textile sector and committed to propelling the nation into a “Global Export Hub”.
Expressing conviction in India’s potential, Modi stated, “We have a firm belief that we will transform India into a ‘Global Export Hub’. In the last decade, we have added another dimension to Vocal for Local. Today, public movements of Vocal for Local and Local to Global are ongoing across the country.”
Highlighting the pivotal role of the textile industry in shaping a developed India, Modi underlined its connection to four key pillars: the poor, youth, farmers, and women.
“We have resolved to transform Bharat into a ‘Viksit Rashtra’ in the next 25 years. Four important pillars of Viksit Bharat are poor, youth, farmers, and women. And notably, the textile sector of Bharat is connected with all these pillars,” the Prime Minister affirmed.
Modi lauded the doubling of foreign investments in India’s textile sector over the past decade, attributing this success to his government’s persistent efforts in nurturing the industry.
“Today, the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the textile sector has doubled from what it was before 2014,” he remarked.
Highlighting the tangible outcomes of governmental stability and foresight, Modi noted the substantial growth in India’s textile market valuation, which has surged from less than Rs 7 lakh crores in 2014 to over Rs 12 lakh crores today.
Emphasizing the significance of Khadi in empowering women and fortifying the textile sector, Modi stressed its pivotal role in fostering both development and employment opportunities.
“Out of every 10 garment makers, 7 are women, and in handloom, it is even more. Apart from textile, Khadi has also given new strength to the women of our country,” he asserted, underscoring Khadi as a catalyst for socio-economic advancement.
