Rohit Sharma Leads Team India to Historic 434-Run Victory Over England in Rajkot Test

Yashasvi Jaiswal's remarkable double century in the second innings helped India set a daunting target of 557 runs for England.

In a historic display of dominance, Team India clinched their biggest Test win (by runs), routing England by a staggering 434 runs in the thrilling encounter held at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. Without their star player Virat Kohli, Team India is now leading 2-1 in the 5-match Test Series. 4th Test will start on 23 February, Friday in Ranchi.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, India asserted their authority early on, posting a formidable total of 445 runs on the scoreboard, powered by impressive centuries from skipper Rohit Sharma (131) and Ravindra Jadeja (112). England, in response, could only muster 319 runs, with Ben Duckett’s valiant century (153) providing the sole silver lining for the visitors.

The momentum firmly in their favor, the Indian team further tightened their grip on the match, courtesy of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s stellar double century, his second consecutive one, propelling India to set a daunting target of 557 runs for England to chase. However, England faltered in their pursuit, crumbling under the pressure and succumbing to a meager 122 runs, sealing their fate in their most significant defeat against India.

This monumental victory marked India’s largest-ever triumph by runs in Test cricket, surpassing their previous record of a 372-run win against New Zealand in Mumbai back in 2021.

The scoreboard after the Rajkot Test stood as follows:

India: 445, 434/4 England: 319, 122

This remarkable triumph also signifies a series of firsts for India under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in 2023 and 2024. Last year witnessed India’s inaugural ODI victory by a margin of over 300 runs, while this year marked their maiden Test win by a margin exceeding 400 runs, both achieved under Rohit Sharma’s inspirational leadership.
