Gunbattle Erupts in J&K’s Kishtwar; Multiple Terrorists Cornered

Srinagar: A fierce gunfight erupted between security forces and terrorists in the Singhpura area of Chatroo in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district early Thursday morning, according to officials.

Initial reports suggest that approximately three to four terrorists are trapped at the encounter site. Following the first exchange of gunfire, reinforcements from security units swiftly arrived at the scene to contain the situation.

The joint counter-terror operation, involving personnel from the Indian Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, is currently underway. Authorities have sealed off the area, and intensive efforts are being made to neutralize the armed threat.

This encounter comes in the wake of heightened security operations across the region. Two recent gunfights were reported—one in Keller, Shopian, on May 13, and another in Tral, Pulwama, on May 15.

Increased vigilance and intensified search operations have been launched following the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. In a broader crackdown, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have also demolished properties belonging to identified terrorists in an effort to dismantle local terror infrastructure.
