Mid-Air Helicopter Collision Near Eura Airport Claims Five Lives

Police reports indicate that one helicopter carried two people while the other had three aboard. Both helicopters were registered outside Finland.

Eura: Five people lost their lives Saturday in a tragic mid-air collision between two helicopters near Eura Airport in southwestern Finland, authorities confirmed. The accident occurred shortly after noon close to the town of Kauttua, with wreckage found about 700 meters from Ohikulkutie road in a densely wooded area.

“Five people have died in a helicopter accident near Eura Airport on Saturday,” said Detective Chief Inspector Johannes Siirilä of the National Bureau of Investigation.

Police reports indicate that one helicopter carried two people while the other had three aboard. Both helicopters were registered outside Finland. According to an Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) report citing Finland’s Helsingin Sanomat newspaper, one helicopter was registered in Estonia and the other in Austria, with both aircraft belonging to Estonian companies. The owners were identified as NOBE and Eleon, respectively.

The helicopters were reportedly heading to a hobby aviation event, as stated by the Pori Aviation Club and reported by Yle News.

The National Bureau of Investigation is spearheading a joint investigation alongside local police, with collaboration from Finnish and Estonian authorities to uncover the causes of this fatal collision.
