Kolkata: A chilling handwritten threat note bearing inflammatory messages, including “Gourav er mundu chai” (Want Gourav’s head) and “Pakistan Zindabad”, was found outside the residence of Indian Army para commando Gourav Mukherjee in Dhaniakhali village, Hooghly district, West Bengal. Mukherjee is currently deployed with the Indian Army’s elite Special Forces unit in Jammu and Kashmir.
The poster, discovered on Saturday night, also contained threats directed at Mukherjee’s family. Written in Bengali with noticeable spelling errors, the note issued ominous warnings for “saving Hindus” and threatened to “turn Bengal into Bangladesh.”
“Pakistan Zindabad. We want Gourav’s head. We will finish your family if you save Hindus. We will turn Bengal into Bangladesh,” the message read.
Mukherjee’s family immediately reported the matter to local authorities, prompting a swift response from the West Bengal Police. An FIR was registered, and an investigation has been launched.
According to India Today TV, CCTV footage from the vicinity showed four unidentified individuals riding two scooters near the house around the time the threat poster was allegedly placed.
Senior officials from Hooghly Rural Police visited the scene shortly after, and security measures around the commando’s residence have since been significantly intensified. Surveillance cameras have been installed, a police picket has been stationed outside the house, and round-the-clock patrolling has been initiated.
“We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness. All possibilities are being looked into, and so far, there is no indication of the involvement of any organised group. It appears to be the handiwork of local miscreants, but we are not ruling anything out,” a senior police official said.
