India’s Advancement: New Submarine-Launched Cruise Missile to Undergo 500-km Range Test Next Month

New Delhi: According to defence sources speaking to India Today, India is poised to conduct a crucial test of its newly developed Submarine Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM), boasting an impressive range of 500 km. Scheduled for early March, this test marks a significant step in India’s military capabilities.

This upcoming test signifies the second trial of the submarine-launched cruise missile, following the initial test conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in February of last year.

Top sources have revealed that the forthcoming test will take place from an underwater platform along the east coast of India. This strategic location aims to validate the missile system’s functionality and efficacy.

Comparatively, the missile shares similarities with the Nirbhay cruise missile in terms of its capabilities. Crucially, these cruise missiles are slated to become integral components of India’s rocket force, a vital asset in addressing perceived threats along its borders.

Notably, Pakistan and China also possess similar capabilities within their respective defence arsenals. In response, India’s armed forces, including the Army, Navy, and Air Force, are considering options from the existing fleet of ballistic missiles within their strategic forces. These missiles could potentially serve conventional roles, enhancing India’s defensive capabilities.
