Mumbai – Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, starring Akshay Kumar, hit the silver screens on Friday, April 18, 2025, with high expectations riding on the shoulders of the actor and the film’s powerful subject. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the historical courtroom drama has received a positive response from critics and audiences alike for its storytelling and performances. However, the film’s opening day box office numbers have been relatively modest.
As per early estimates by Sacnilk, the film managed to collect approximately ₹7.50 crore on Day 1. Despite the buzz and anticipation surrounding the sequel to 2019’s Kesari, the opening figures have not matched those of Akshay Kumar’s earlier 2025 release, Sky Force, which debuted with ₹12.25 crore on its first day.
In Kesari Chapter 2, Akshay Kumar takes on the role of C. Sankaran Nair, the eminent lawyer who challenged the British Crown in court, seeking justice and accountability for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919—one of the most brutal and defining events in India’s colonial history.
The film features a strong ensemble cast including Ananya Panday, R. Madhavan, Regina Cassandra, Simon Paisley Day, Alexx O’Nell, Amit Sial, Mark Bennington, and Krish Rao in pivotal roles. Critics have praised the film’s direction, production design, and the courtroom sequences, noting it as a gripping extension of the patriotic spirit showcased in the original Kesari.
While Kesari Chapter 2 may not have delivered fireworks at the box office on Day 1, it still holds potential for growth through strong word-of-mouth, especially over the weekend. Whether it can join the ranks of 2025’s top Bollywood earners like Sky Force, Chhaava (starring Vicky Kaushal), and Sikandar (starring Salman Khan)—all of which have crossed the ₹100 crore mark domestically—remains to be seen.
