Akshay Kumar’s ‘Kesari: Chapter 2’ Wins Big Praise from Union Minister Puri

The special screening was held on Tuesday and saw the presence of prominent political figures and Bollywood stars.

New Delhi: Union Minister and senior BJP leader Hardeep Singh Puri heaped praise on the upcoming film Kesari: Chapter 2, lauding it as a compelling cinematic tribute to a pivotal chapter in India’s freedom struggle. Puri, who attended an exclusive preview of the film in New Delhi, commended its storytelling for vividly portraying a “transformational period” in India’s history.

The special screening was held on Tuesday and saw the presence of prominent political figures and Bollywood stars. Among those attending were leading actors Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan, alongside Delhi BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa and other senior officials including Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra and Delhi CM Rekha Gupta.

While addressing the audience at the theatre, Hardeep Singh Puri said:

“We are very privileged to have been given this opportunity to watch this film that not only promises to be, but what I’m sure is a fantastic blockbuster, something which focuses on a transformational period in our history, which takes history out of the history books and with the talent and brilliance of Bollywood brings it to all of you”.

Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari: Chapter 2 delves into the lesser-explored historical events following the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The film features a riveting courtroom battle between Akshay Kumar, portraying C Sankaran Nair, a fearless advocate for justice, and R Madhavan, who plays Neville McKinley, a lawyer representing the British Crown.

Hardeep Singh Puri also reminded attendees of the importance of respecting intellectual property rights during the screening, urging everyone to refrain from recording any part of the film.

“Intellectual property and copyright laws being what they are, it is absolutely essential that you watch the film and put your phone on silent and do not use the recording device. It’s a great privilege to be able to watch the film 3 days before its release. The Film which promises to break all records. Because I’m a student of history, so what I’m telling you is on the basis of the little I know, but I’m looking forward to being educated”, he added.

The film is set to release in theatres across India on April 18, 2025, and has already generated significant buzz for its powerful narrative, historical authenticity, and stellar performances. The production aims to not only entertain but also educate viewers about a vital, though often overlooked, episode in India’s colonial history.
