Sundar Pichai Congratulates Meta on Launch of Llama 4 AI Models

Taking to social media platform X, Pichai wrote, 'Never a dull day in the AI world! Congrats to the Llama 4 team. Onwards'!

New York: In a rare moment of cross-industry appreciation, Google CEO Sundar Pichai extended his congratulations to Meta on the successful launch of its latest AI innovation — the Llama 4 series.

Taking to social media platform X, Pichai posted, “Never a dull day in the AI world! Congrats to the Llama 4 team, Onwards”! The message, though brief, underscores the growing sense of mutual respect and competitive camaraderie in the AI space, even among rival tech giants.

Inside Meta’s Llama 4 Launch
Meta’s newly unveiled Llama 4 models — Llama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick — represent a significant leap in AI capabilities. These cutting-edge large language models (LLMs) are multimodal, meaning they can process and interact with various forms of content including text, images, audio, and video. More importantly, they are designed to convert seamlessly between these formats, unlocking powerful use cases in communication, content creation, and automation.

Described by Meta as their “most advanced models yet”, Llama 4 reportedly surpasses all previous versions in terms of performance and efficiency. These models are already powering Meta AI, the company’s virtual assistant integrated into apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, and are being rolled out in 40 countries.

Adding to the buzz is Llama 4 Behemoth, a teacher model currently in training. According to Meta, Behemoth is poised to exceed leading models like OpenAI’s GPT-4.5, Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 3.7, and Google’s Gemini 2.0 Pro, particularly in STEM benchmarks such as MATH-500 and GPQA Diamond.

What sets Meta apart is its commitment to open innovation — the Llama 4 models are open-source and available immediately for researchers and developers, offering a direct alternative to more closed systems.

As the AI race intensifies, Sundar Pichai’s gesture signals not just recognition of a technological milestone, but also a nod to the broader AI ecosystem where collaboration and competition continue to drive breakthroughs.
