New Delhi: India has no plans to privatise state-owned telecom firms Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL), Deputy Communications Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar confirmed in response to a parliamentary inquiry on Wednesday.
Sekhar also stated that the federal government recently approved an additional capital expenditure of 69.82 billion rupees ($800 million) for BSNL. This move aligns with the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the public sector telecom company and enhance its network infrastructure.
