Taylor Swift Wins IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year for Fifth Time

Swift’s "The Tortured Poets Department" topped multiple IFPI charts, leading global album, vinyl, streaming, and sales rankings.

London: Taylor Swift has once again claimed the title of IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year for 2024, marking her fifth win from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), which represents the global recorded music industry.

Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, dominated multiple IFPI charts, securing the top position in the global album, global vinyl album, global streaming album, and global album sales categories. According to an IFPI statement released on Tuesday, the album led the 2024 global album sales chart with 5.6 million units sold, accounting for both physical purchases and full album downloads. K-pop group ENHYPEN’s Romance: Untold followed in second place with 3.4 million units sold.

The overwhelming success of Swift’s record-breaking Eras tour, which became the first concert tour in history to surpass $1 billion in revenue, also contributed to a resurgence of interest in her past albums. Several of her previous releases secured spots on the 2024 vinyl album and streaming album charts, further cementing her influence in the music industry.

“This has been a huge year for Taylor, and it has been incredible to see the extent to which fans all over the world are connecting with her superb catalogue of music,” IFPI Chief Executive Victoria Oakley said.

Swift was first honored as IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year in 2014, followed by wins in 2019, 2022, and 2023, making her the most awarded artist in the history of the accolade since its inception 12 years ago.

The award is presented to the artist or group that tops the IFPI Global Artist Chart, which measures worldwide sales across streaming, downloads, and physical formats throughout the calendar year. The ranking considers an artist’s entire catalog rather than a single release.
