Harry Kane Becomes Top English Scorer in Champions League History with 36 Goals

With 36 goals, Kane is now the top English scorer in Champions League history.

Glasgow, Scotland – After securing a crucial goal in Bayern Munich’s 2-1 win over Celtic in the first leg of their Champions League playoff, England soccer captain Harry Kane once again voiced his aspiration to transition his kicking prowess to the NFL.

The 31-year-old striker, who now holds the record for the most Champions League goals by an English player with 36, spoke to CBS following the match. When questioned about his passion for American football, notably as a supporter of the New England Patriots, Kane admitted, “Switching from soccer to American football ‘is something in the back of my mind.'”

Despite his focus remaining on soccer, particularly with Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Kane left the door open for a potential future in the NFL, stating, “I’ve been asked about it before and my focus is on here, the Champions League, Bayern Munich, but it’s something I’d like to explore in a future date. But I still feel like I’ve got many more years ahead of me (in soccer).”

His performance on Wednesday night was yet another chapter in his prolific scoring record, particularly against goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. Kane scored his 19th career goal against Schmeichel with a back-post volley in the 49th minute, marking a personal milestone as he has scored against no other goalkeeper more times.

Celtic’s manager, Brendan Rodgers, acknowledged Kane’s prowess, noting, “One of the world’s best strikers shouldn’t be left free in the box.”

Kane’s interest in the NFL was evident as he shared his thoughts on the recent Super Bowl, where the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles. As a Tom Brady admirer, Kane confessed, “I watched the Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday and ‘honesty didn’t care who won.’ However, deep down, he wasn’t unhappy to see the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes come up short in their bid for a third straight Super Bowl title.”

He reminisced about Brady’s inspiring journey from a late NFL Draft pick to a seven-time champion, saying, “All credit to the Eagles, stopping the Chiefs doing the three-peat. I’m backing my boy Brady, so it was nice to see it if I’m totally honest.”

For now, Kane’s focus remains on the pitch, but his comments keep alive the speculation and interest in what could be a fascinating sports crossover in the future.
