Brazil back in Olympic women’s alpine skiing after 12-year absence

Padilha's combined time across two races was 1:37.75, securing her 14th place in the competition.

Boston, Massachusetts: Alice Padilha has earned Brazil a spot in women’s alpine skiing at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, ending a 12-year absence for the nation in the event.

The 17-year-old from Rio de Janeiro delivered a strong performance at Berkshire East in the United States, competing in Sunday’s slalom event. She scored 83.07 points—well below the 120-point threshold required by the International Ski Federation (FIS) for Olympic qualification.

Padilha’s combined time across two races was 1:37.75, securing her 14th place in the competition. The result ensures she meets the FIS qualification standard, calculated as an average of an athlete’s top five results during the qualification period.

While the Olympic quota spot is awarded to Brazil’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) rather than the individual athlete, Padilha’s achievement signifies Brazil’s return to women’s alpine skiing at the Winter Games for the first time since Sochi 2014.
