Precision Strike: Ukraine Targets Russian Base in Kursk

Ukrainian forces have maintained their presence in parts of the Kursk region for over five months.

Kyiv: Ukraine’s military announced on Thursday that it executed a high-precision strike on a Russian command post in Maryino, located in the Kursk region. The area has been a hotspot, with Ukrainian forces holding sections of territory following a major cross-border incursion.

Russia’s defense ministry reported intercepting four Ukrainian missiles using air defense systems. Meanwhile, Kursk regional governor Alexander Khinshtein stated that the strikes had caused damage to civilian structures, including a high-rise apartment building and several other buildings in an adjacent village.

Prolonged Presence in Kursk

Ukrainian forces have maintained their presence in parts of the Kursk region for over five months. Despite Russian claims of regaining much of the lost territory, the Ukrainian military insists its operations are designed to disrupt Russia’s ability to launch attacks against Ukrainian civilians.

“These strikes disrupt the ability of the Russian Federation to conduct terrorism against innocent Ukrainian civilians,” read a statement by Ukraine’s military on Telegram.

Additional Strikes Documented

Ukraine also shared footage purportedly showing damage to a Russian base in Ivanivskoye, a settlement near Maryino. Kursk governor Khinshtein provided details of the strike, reporting shattered windows in residential buildings, a school, a pharmacy, and a shop. Efforts to repair the damaged facades were captured on video.

Both Ukrainian and Russian claims could not be independently verified by Reuters at this time.
