Washington: President-elect Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he has appointed longtime ally Devin Nunes, a former U.S. lawmaker and current CEO of Trump’s Truth Social platform, to lead the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board. Nunes, who served as chairman of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee during part of Trump’s first term, will continue in his role as CEO of Truth Social while also taking on this new responsibility, according to Trump’s post on the platform.
Nunes, a staunch defender of Trump, gained national attention for his leadership in the Intelligence Committee, where he made controversial claims regarding the FBI’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, which Trump won against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. As committee chair, Nunes alleged that the FBI had conspired against Trump during the investigation.
“Devin will draw on his experience as former Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, and his key role in exposing the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, to provide me with independent assessments of the effectiveness and propriety of the U.S. Intelligence Community’s activities,” Trump wrote in his post.
