Trump: It’s Time to Stop the War in Ukraine

Russia, under President Vladimir Putin, has shifted focus from Syria to Ukraine, influenced by significant losses and ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

President-elect Donald Trump has called for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, citing the recent political upheaval in Syria as a precedent for peace.

“Assad is gone. He has fled his country,” Trump declared. “His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer. There was no reason for Russia to be there in the first place.”

Trump pointed to the Russian engagement in Ukraine as a significant factor in the shift of focus from Syria, stating, “They lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where close to 600,000 Russian soldiers lay wounded or dead, in a war that should never have started, and could go on forever.”

He emphasized the weakened states of both Russia and Iran due to current conflicts, noting, “Russia and Iran are in a weakened state right now, one because of Ukraine and a bad economy, the other because of Israel and its fighting success.”

Turning his attention to Ukraine, Trump expressed sympathy for the Ukrainian people and their losses, “Likewise, Zelenskyy and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness. They have ridiculously lost 400,000 soldiers, and many more civilians.”

Urging for peace, Trump advocated for immediate action, “There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin. Too many lives are being so needlessly wasted, too many families destroyed, and if it keeps going, it can turn into something much bigger, and far worse.”

He concluded with a direct appeal to the Russian leadership, “I know Vladimir well. This is his time to act. China can help. The World is waiting!”

Trump’s statement reflects a desire to pivot towards diplomacy, leveraging global shifts in power dynamics to push for an end to one of Europe’s most devastating conflicts in recent history. Whether this call will lead to concrete actions remains to be seen, but it certainly sets the stage for potential peace talks.
