Bloomberg Billionaires Index | Jeff Bezos $8 Billion Away from Surpassing Musk as World’s Wealthiest Person

New York: Amazon’s Jeff Bezos is on the verge of reclaiming the title of the world’s wealthiest person, trailing Elon Musk by just $8 billion. Bezos’ fortune has surged by $20 billion this year, fueled by a 13% rise in Amazon stock, bringing his net worth to $197 billion. In contrast, Musk’s wealth has dipped by $24 billion to $205 billion due to a 24% drop in Tesla’s stock.

Bezos, with a nearly 10% stake in Amazon, owns 988 million shares, while Musk, holding about 13% of Tesla, has approximately 411 million shares. Bezos plans to sell up to 50 million Amazon shares valued at $8.6 billion by January next year.

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index shuffle also sees Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg gaining $28 billion in a day, reaching $170 billion, placing him ahead in the yearly wealth gain with an unmatched $42 billion. Warren Buffett rises to seventh place, surpassing Larry Ellison and Google’s Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

Despite Musk’s net worth dip, Tesla’s stock, up over six-fold since 2020, underscores the resilience of his wealth, while Amazon shares, though less than doubling since 2020, contribute to Bezos’ resurgence.
