Hong Kong: Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang declared that “the age of AI has started” during a speech on Saturday, after being awarded an honorary doctorate in engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Huang, who leads the world’s foremost maker of chips powering artificial intelligence (AI) applications, received the prestigious recognition alongside notable figures such as actor Tony Leung, Nobel Prize-winning chemist Prof. Michael Levitt, and Fields Medalist Prof. David Mumford.
“The age of AI has started. A new computing era that will impact every industry and every field of science,” Huang stated, emphasizing the transformative power of AI. He reflected on Nvidia’s pivotal role in driving this revolution, noting that the company had “reinvented computing and sparked a new industrial revolution” since the invention of the graphics processing unit (GPU) 25 years ago.
“AI is certainly the most important technology of our time, and potentially of all times,” Huang added, underscoring the far-reaching implications of AI across sectors. He also shared his thoughts on the exciting future ahead for today’s graduates.

“I wish I had started my career at this time,” Huang said. “The whole world is reset. You’re at the starting lines with everybody else. An industry is being reinvented. You now have the instruments, the instruments necessary to advance science in so many different fields.” He noted that the challenges of our time, once considered insurmountable, now seem within reach due to advancements in AI.

Later in the day, Huang is scheduled to participate in a fireside chat with the university’s Council Chairman Harry Sham, along with faculty and students, to further discuss the future of AI and its potential to shape industries and science.
