New York: IBM has launched the latest version of its artificial intelligence models tailored for businesses, aiming to capitalize on the growing trend of enterprises embracing generative AI technology. The new “Granite 3.0” models will be open-source, following the precedent set by other versions in IBM’s Granite family of AI models. This strategy stands in contrast to competitors like Microsoft, which charge customers for access to their AI models.
To complement its open-source offerings, IBM provides a paid tool called Watsonx, designed to operate customized models within data centers. Starting Monday, some variants of the Granite models will be available for commercial use on the Watsonx platform. Additionally, a selection of these models will also be accessible through Nvidia’s suite of software tools, which enables businesses to integrate AI models seamlessly.

According to Dario Gil, IBM’s director of research, the new Granite models were trained using Nvidia’s H100 graphics processing units (GPUs), a leading technology in the AI chip market. This collaboration underscores IBM’s commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions that meet the evolving needs of businesses in an increasingly competitive landscape.
