Military Evacuation: South Korea Airlifts 97 Citizens from Lebanon Due to Escalating Conflict

President Yoon Suk Yeol ordered military aircraft to evacuate South Korean citizens from the Middle East amid rising tensions from the Israel-Hezbollah conflict.

Seoul/Beirut: A South Korean military transport aircraft is evacuating 97 citizens and their family members from Lebanon amid escalating tensions in the region. The country’s foreign ministry announced that the aircraft is set to return to South Korea on Saturday afternoon.

A KC-330 aircraft touched down in Beirut on Friday morning, departing in the afternoon with the evacuees, which include Lebanese family members. The flight will arrive at a military airfield located south of the capital, Seoul.

President Yoon Suk Yeol ordered the immediate deployment of military aircraft on Wednesday to facilitate the evacuation of South Korean citizens from areas in the Middle East affected by rising tensions stemming from the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

The government plans to take additional actions to ensure the safety of its citizens, though the foreign ministry did not provide specific details on these measures. Meanwhile, South Korean diplomats stationed in Lebanon have opted to remain in the country, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
