Shanghai has taken extensive precautionary measures as Typhoon Bebinca approaches, suspending transportation, closing major tourism sites, including the Disney Resort, and recalling ships. The Category 1 storm, with winds reaching 144 km/h (89 mph), is expected to strike China’s eastern coast late Sunday night or early Monday morning.
Local meteorological authorities upgraded the alert for Typhoon Bebinca to “orange”—the second-highest warning level—at 5:00 PM on Sunday. The storm is predicted to make landfall between Shanghai’s Pudong area and Zhoushan in Zhejiang Province.
As of Sunday morning, Bebinca’s center was located 435 kilometers southeast of Shanghai, and the storm is moving northwest at a speed of 25 km/h, with its intensity expected to increase. Authorities have also raised the emergency response to a level-one alert, the highest in the system.
