Canberra: Cricket Australia (CA) has announced plans to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first-ever Test match with a special Australia vs England Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in March 2027. The historic match, originally played between March 15 and 19, 1877, marked the beginning of Test cricket. Australia emerged victorious in that single-innings timeless match, winning by 45 runs, although England leveled the series with a win in the second match at the same venue.
The centennial celebration in 1977 featured another Test between Australia and England at the MCG, where Australia again secured victory by 45 runs.
