Taipei: A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the northeastern coast of Taiwan’s Yilan County on Thursday, according to the island’s Central Weather Bureau. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of damage.
The tremor, with a depth of 9 km, was felt in Taipei, causing buildings to shake. Subway services in the capital were temporarily slowed as a precaution.

Taiwan is situated near the boundary of two tectonic plates, making it highly susceptible to seismic activity. Earlier this year, the island experienced its most powerful earthquake in 25 years, which resulted in nine fatalities and over 900 injuries.
