White House Blames Russia for Kursk Region Tensions, Calls for Troop Withdrawal

Kirby dismissed Kremlin claims of Western involvement in Kursk as "ridiculous propaganda".

Washington: The White House has advised Russian President Vladimir Putin to withdraw his troops from Ukraine if he is concerned about the escalating situation in Russia’s Kursk region.

John Kirby, the coordinator of strategic communications at the National Security Council, made this statement during an online briefing, as reported by Ukrinform.

Kirby dismissed Kremlin claims of Western involvement in the Kursk situation as “ridiculous propaganda”. He pointed out that Putin has consistently used the narrative of Western opposition to justify his invasion of Ukraine.

“The only ones at war with Ukraine are the Russians, who continue their illegal invasion,” Kirby emphasized, noting that Ukraine is merely defending itself against Russian aggression.

Kirby refrained from commenting on specific details regarding the Kursk region, suggesting inquiries about the situation should be directed to Ukrainian authorities. However, he made it clear that Putin’s dissatisfaction with the Kursk situation could be resolved simply: “He can just withdraw his troops from Ukraine and stop everything.”
