Curfew Imposed Until 6 AM Tuesday, All Offices, Educational Institutions to Open

General Waker-uz-Zaman, Chief of Army Staff, is holding meetings with leaders from various political parties and civil society members at the army headquarters.

Dhaka, Aug 5: A curfew will be in effect from 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM on Tuesday, with all government and semi-government offices, private offices, factories, and educational institutions, including schools, colleges, madrasas, and universities, set to open as usual, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday night.

Internet Shutdown and Protests: Earlier today, students from various institutions gathered at the central Shaheed Minar for a “March to Dhaka” organized by the Student Against Discrimination Movement. The protest was met with police action, including the use of teargas and sound grenades to disperse the crowd.

Thousands of people also took to the streets in Jatrabari, Dhaka, where police were stationed and fired teargas and sound grenades at protesters. Army personnel with armored vehicles were observed in the area.

Meetings with Political and Civil Leaders: General Waker-uz-Zaman, Chief of Army Staff, is holding meetings with leaders from various political parties and civil society members at the army headquarters. Jatiya Party co-chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud, party secretary general Mujibul Haque Chunnu, and Dhaka University law professor Asif Nazrul have been invited to the discussions.

Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana Depart: Sheikh Hasina, along with her sister Sheikh Rehana, departed from Ganabhaban at around 2:30 PM on Monday. Reports indicate that they have headed to West Bengal, India. Sources confirm that Sheikh Hasina had planned to record an address but did not have the opportunity.

Army Chief’s Address and Internet Update: General Waker-uz-Zaman is scheduled to address the nation at 2:00 PM today. The ISPR has requested the public to avoid violence and remain patient until the address.

Broadband internet services have been restored as of 1:15 PM today. However, there are no updates regarding the restoration of mobile internet or social media platforms such as Facebook.
