Triathlon-Mixed Relay Swim Training Session Cancelled Due to Seine Water Quality Issues

The mixed relay race is set to take place on Monday.

Paris: Organizers of the Paris Olympics have called off the swimming training session for the triathlon mixed relay event scheduled for Sunday. The cancellation comes after recent heavy rains adversely impacted water quality in the Seine river.

The decision, announced late Saturday, was prompted by recent tests indicating that water quality fell below the required standards following rainfall on July 31 and August 1.

The mixed relay race is set to take place on Monday. Organizers stated, “We are expecting an improvement in conditions in the next hours, but not to a level to which the swim familiarization planned for tomorrow can take place.”

They added, “In view of these conditions, we have decided to cancel the swim familiarization tonight to avoid late communication to athletes.”

The pollution in the Seine, resulting from the heavy rains, had previously led to the postponement of the men’s race by a day and the cancellation of swimming practice sessions for two consecutive days.
