Madrid: A rescue team on the Spanish island of Tenerife discovered human remains on Monday in the vicinity where British teenager Jay Slater went missing nearly a month ago. Police indicated strong evidence suggests the remains are his.
The Guardia Civil police force stated that Slater may have died from a fall in the rugged mountainous area. An autopsy will confirm whether the death was accidental.
“The body was found on Monday morning by a Civil Guard mountain rescue group,” a police spokesperson confirmed. “The family has been notified, and an autopsy will be conducted soon. The case will then be transferred to a Tenerife court to determine the cause of death.”

Slater, 19, disappeared on June 17, and his phone’s last trace was in the Masca ravine within a remote national park in the Canary Islands archipelago.
On June 30, Spanish authorities had announced the conclusion of their extensive search, involving numerous officers, rescue teams, and volunteers using dogs, drones, and helicopters. However, the Guardia Civil officers continued a persistent search in the area throughout the 29 days.
