Dubai’s Crown Prince Takes Helm as UAE Defense Minister in Major Cabinet Reshuffle

Sheikh Hamdan, 41, widely known as Fazza, has been Dubai's crown prince since 2008.

Dubai: Dubai’s crown prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, has been appointed as the minister of defense for the United Arab Emirates in a recent cabinet reshuffle announced by Dubai ruler and UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum.

Sheikh Hamdan, 41 years old and widely known as Fazza, has held the position of Dubai’s crown prince since 2008 and has now been elevated to the role of UAE’s defense minister. Additionally, he has been named as one of the UAE’s deputy prime ministers.

With a significant following of 16.4 million on Instagram, Sheikh Hamdan is a popular figure within Dubai’s ruling family and beyond.

The reshuffle also included the appointment of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s foreign minister, as a deputy prime minister. Other new appointments announced by Sheikh Mohammed include Alia Abdulla AlMazrouei as minister of state for entrepreneurship, Sarah Al Amiri as minister of education, and Abdulrahman Al Awar as acting minister of higher education and scientific research.
