Abuja: Twenty-two people tragically lost their lives after a two-storey school building collapsed in central Nigeria’s Plateau state, according to a media report on Saturday.
A total of 154 individuals were initially trapped under the debris. Fortunately, everyone except those who perished was rescued and is currently receiving treatment for injuries at various hospitals, as stated by a police spokesperson.
As of the latest update from Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Facebook, thirty individuals remain hospitalized. The agency confirmed that rescue operations have concluded, and the site has been cleared.

The Saint Academy building, located in the Busa Buji community of Jos north district, collapsed during school hours around 0730 GMT.

Building collapses are unfortunately common in Africa’s most populous country due to inadequate safety regulations and the frequent use of substandard construction materials.
