This Barbie is going to be a mom! Margot Robbie, known for her role as the iconic doll in the 2023 billion-dollar blockbuster, is expecting her first baby with her husband, Tom Ackerley. The 34-year-old actress and her director husband, also 34, were recently seen on holiday in Lake Como, Italy, where Robbie displayed her baby bump in a white crop top with a blazer draped over her shoulders. The happy couple enjoyed the beautiful scenery as they were spotted getting on a yacht.
Multiple sources confirmed to People on Sunday, July 7, that Robbie is pregnant with her first child after the Daily Mail published photos sparking pregnancy speculation earlier in the day. Us Weekly has reached out to Robbie’s representatives for comment.
The fashion magazine, on whose cover Margot has appeared many times, also congratulated the famously private star on her pregnancy. Margot and Tom first met in 2013 on the set of the World War II drama “Suite Française.” They tied the knot in a secret ceremony in Australia’s Byron Bay in December 2016, surprising many as they had kept their engagement a secret.
In a 2016 interview with Vogue, Margot opened up about her relationship with Tom and their first meeting. She shared, “I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit. And then this crept up on me. We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, ‘Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him.’ And then it happened, and I was like, ‘Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.'”
Last month, Tom spoke to The Sunday Times about how he and his wife balance their personal and professional lives, noting that they keep their marriage extremely private. He said, “It’s seamless. We don’t have a toggle on, toggle off. It’s all become one thing.”
Margot and Tom were friends first and now collaborate as part of a four-person producing team at LuckyChap, which also includes her childhood friends Sophia Kerr and Josey McNamara. The company has produced TV shows and movies, including “Saltburn,” “Promising Young Woman,” and “Barbie.”
“Barbie” broke box office records and made history when it premiered alongside “Oppenheimer” on July 21, 2023. Fans dubbed the event “Barbenheimer,” and together, the two films grossed more than $1 billion globally.
Robbie has previously been candid about her and Ackerley’s family planning journey. She told the U.K.’s Radio Times in January 2019, “It [makes] me really angry. How dare some old guy dictate what I can and can’t do when it comes to motherhood or my own body? Unfortunately, it’s a conversation we’re still having.”
