The daily casualty rate for Russia has surged, now averaging between 200-250 soldiers per day in 2024, up from 120 per day in the previous year. This increase underscores the intensifying nature of the conflict.

In a separate development, reports emerged of drone attacks targeting oil depots in Russia’s Krasnodar region overnight on Friday. Regional officials confirmed that tanks at Pavlovskaya and Leningradskaya were hit, with NASA’s global satellite fire monitoring system corroborating the reports by indicating corresponding blazes at the sites. Unverified videos circulating online purported to show fires resulting from these attacks.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed gratitude following assurances from Keir Starmer, the newly elected UK Prime Minister, regarding Britain’s unwavering support for Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict. Zelenskiy highlighted coordination with Starmer ahead of next week’s NATO summit, where Ukraine hopes for progress towards membership and bolstered defense measures.

On the ground in Ukraine, attacks by Russian forces on Friday resulted in casualties and extensive damage in the eastern Donetsk region. According to regional governor Vadym Filashkin, eight people were killed and at least 28 others injured in strikes targeting residential areas and infrastructure facilities.
