Jenna Ortega Dishes on ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 at the Emmys: More Horror, Bigger Thrills Await

On the glitzy Emmys red carpet, Jenna Ortega spilled the beans about the highly anticipated second season of her Netflix mega-hit, “Wednesday”. The series, which debuted to immense acclaim in the fall of 2022 and swiftly became one of Netflix’s most-watched originals, is gearing up for its next installment.

Despite facing delays due to Hollywood strikes last year, production for Season 2 is set to kick off this spring, as confirmed by Ortega herself. With a sparkle in her eye, the actress revealed, “I’ve received some scripts for the second season. We’re leaning into a little bit more horror.” Ortega added, “It’s exciting because…everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”

“Wednesday” is set to change scenery, moving production from Romania to Ireland for its second season, tentatively scheduled to begin shooting in April. The show revolves around Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of the iconic “Addams Family” character, Wednesday, as she navigates her life at Nevermore Academy. Netflix has also greenlit a spinoff focused on Fred Armisen’s Fester.

During a conversation with Elle Fanning for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” last year, Ortega hinted at the heightened horror element in Season 2, expressing a desire to delve deeper into the show’s supernatural aspects. She revealed, “Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.”

One significant change for the upcoming season is the abandonment of any romantic love interest for Wednesday. Ortega emphasized, “We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is great,” referring to the Season 1 storyline that saw her character entangled in a love triangle. Ortega, attending the Emmys as a nominee in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category, teased fans with a promise of more chills and thrills in the forthcoming season.

As “Wednesday” Season 2 gains momentum, fans can eagerly anticipate a darker and more action-packed narrative, ensuring that the series continues to leave an indelible mark on Netflix’s roster of original content.
