Bangkok: Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has addressed criticism regarding his frequent international travels since assuming office ten months ago. In a televised statement on Saturday, Srettha, a real estate mogul turned political leader, defended his 15 overseas trips, emphasizing their necessity for Thailand’s diplomatic and economic interests.
Acknowledging public scrutiny, Srettha highlighted that some travels were unavoidable, particularly those involving official ASEAN meetings, visits to key economic partners like China and Japan, and a trip to Sri Lanka to finalize a free trade agreement.
“As Thailand’s salesman, attracting foreign investment is crucial,” Srettha explained, underscoring his objective to bolster economic ties and stimulate growth through international engagements.

Despite pledges to pause travel for two months earlier this year in response to public feedback, Srettha reaffirmed the importance of these diplomatic efforts in advancing Thailand’s global standing and economic prospects.
