India Grand Prix Cancellation Leads to Kazakhstan Race Replacement

The forthcoming edition of the Indian Grand Prix is poised to make a comeback in an earlier slot within the 2025 season.

Madrid: MotoGP’s Indian Grand Prix has met its cancellation fate due to operational concerns, as announced by series organizers on Wednesday. However, enthusiasts need not despair as the void left by the cancellation will be filled by the inaugural Kazakhstan Grand Prix, slated to unfold during the same time frame.

The previous edition of the Indian Grand Prix unfolded amidst hot and humid conditions at the Buddh International Circuit in Noida last September. Notably, it underwent a three-lap truncation after MotoGP riders advocated for race distance adjustments.

The forthcoming edition of the Indian Grand Prix is poised to make a comeback in an earlier slot within the 2025 season.

In an official statement, MotoGP conveyed, “The FIM, IRTA, and Dorna Sports announce that the Indian Grand Prix will not take place in 2024, with MotoGP postponing its return to the country to early 2025 due to operational considerations.”

The statement further elucidated, “Following advice from the Government of Uttar Pradesh as the state continues its long-term commitment to MotoGP, the sport will return to Buddh International Circuit in March 2025, when weather conditions are expected to be optimal for spectators and riders alike.”

Meanwhile, the Kazakhstan Grand Prix, initially slated for June, encountered a postponement this month due to severe weather conditions and flooding across central Asia, leading to the evacuation of nearly 117,000 people.

In light of these circumstances, MotoGP declared, “The inaugural Kazakhstan GP will now take place from the 20th to the 22nd of September as the first race on the Asian leg of the 2024 MotoGP calendar.”

The cancellation of the Indian Grand Prix marks the second race cancellation this year, following the scrapping of Argentina’s Grand Prix due to an economic crisis.
