Ranbir Kapoor-Starrer ‘Ramayana’ on Its Way to Becoming the Most Expensive Indian Film!

Mumbai: The anticipation surrounding Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Ram in the epic Ramayana reaches new heights as the film sets the stage for a monumental cinematic experience. Directed by the visionary Nitesh Tiwari, the project embarked on its journey last month and is already etching its name in the annals of Indian cinema as one of the most financially ambitious endeavors to date. Spanning three parts, the initial installment alone commands a jaw-dropping budget exceeding Rs 800 crores, a figure rivaling the box office prowess of Kapoor’s Animal. Joining him, Sai Pallavi steps into the role of Sita, promising a captivating on-screen chemistry.

Behind the scenes, Nitesh Tiwari leaves no stone unturned, allocating an estimated budget of Rs 835 crores solely for the first part of Ramayana. According to media reports, an insider claimed, “The $100 Million [Rs 835 crore] budget is just for Ramayana: Part One. He plans to expand this further as the franchise grows. The idea is to take the audience on a visual treat with Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram.” The production demands an extensive 600 days of post-production work, underscoring the meticulous attention to detail and the quest for unparalleled visual storytelling.

Adding to the allure, co-producer Yash, who also graces the screen as Ravana, lends his expertise to elevate the cinematic spectacle to new heights.

Yet, amidst the glitz and grandeur, Ramayana finds itself entangled in legal complexities. Reports from Money Control unravel a legal dispute over intellectual property rights, pitting Ramayana’s primary production house, Allu Mantena Media Ventures LLP, against Prime Focus Technologies Limited. The bone of contention revolves around the rights to the title ‘Project Ramayana’, with negotiations initiated in April 2024. However, the talks hit a snag due to alleged incomplete payments, stalling efforts to formalize the agreement.
