Fuel-Laden Cargo Train Derails and Ignites in Russia Amid Suspected Drone Attack

Moscow: In a dramatic turn of events, a cargo train transporting vital fuel in the Volgograd region of Russia was derailed and engulfed in flames, allegedly due to a drone attack.

Preliminary reports streaming in from Russian media outlets indicate that the train’s derailment was triggered by what they term as “interference from external parties”, as cited by 24 Kanal.

Incident in Detail The distressing incident unfolded around the early hours of the morning near the Kotluban station. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties, and emergency response teams are presently on-site, tackling the aftermath.

Initial assessments hint at the drone attack igniting two fuel-laden cars, with one of the tanks purportedly undergoing an explosion. This catastrophic event led to a spillage of fuel, further exacerbating the situation as it set ablaze nearby vegetation.

A total of nine train cars veered off the tracks in the wake of the attack. While efforts have been made to contain the fire, it still smolders, refusing to be completely extinguished.

Eyewitnesses have captured footage showcasing the current grim state of the derailed cargo train.

Multiple Regions Targeted The night of May 13 bore witness to a spate of drone attacks in several regions across Russia, sending shockwaves through communities. Drones were sighted in the Lipetsk, Belgorod, and Kursk regions.

Russian authorities touted the attacks as being “successfully repelled,” yet the Lipetsk region was not spared, with an electrical substation succumbing to flames ignited by the drone assault.

In Belgorod, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov disclosed that “several targets” were neutralized in response to the attack.

Reports surfaced of a private residence, a garage, and a bathhouse being obliterated, with shattered windows and damaged roofs and facades dotting the landscape. Additionally, three vehicles bore the brunt of the onslaught. A separate fire erupted in the Belgorod region, attributed to the incendiary effects of the drone strike, with authorities noting that “dry grass was burning.”

Telegram channels buzzing with activity relayed accounts of heightened air defense measures in the Kursk region, boasting the downing of eight drones.
