Corendon Airlines Boeing 737 Tire Bursts on Landing in Turkey; Passengers Safe

Ankara: A Corendon Airlines Boeing 737 plane experienced a burst front tire upon landing at a southern Turkey airport on Thursday, confirmed Turkish Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu. Despite the incident, all 190 passengers and crew aboard were safely evacuated, with no reported casualties.

The plane, arriving from Cologne, Germany, suffered damage to its front landing gear strut as it landed at Alanya-Gazipasa airport in Antalya, Minister Uraloglu reported. He reassured the public via social media platform X that all necessary units were deployed and on standby, expressing gratitude for the absence of injuries among the 184 passengers and 6 crew members. Initial assessments indicated no damage to the runway, which was temporarily closed.

Following the incident, flights were redirected to the main Antalya airport and nearby alternatives, Minister Uraloglu stated. Corendon Airlines issued a statement affirming that the aircraft came to a safe stop on the runway after the tire burst.

While burst tires during landings are relatively common occurrences, experts emphasize the importance of meticulous inspection and potential passenger evacuations as precautionary measures. Despite the minor setback, the situation was swiftly managed, contrasting with a similar incident involving a FedEx Airlines Boeing 767 cargo plane’s emergency landing without its front landing gear the day before.
