Russia Denounces Germany’s Allegations of Hacking as Baseless, Warns of Deteriorating Ties

Moscow: Russia has accused Germany of perpetuating unfounded myths regarding Russian hackers to exacerbate tensions, denouncing Berlin’s decision to recall its ambassador as a move that will further strain bilateral relations.

“Berlin regularly exploits the myth of malicious activity by purportedly Russian hackers in Germany, escalating tensions in bilateral relations,” stated Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. “No evidence was presented.”

Germany cited cyberattacks launched by Moscow against its defense, aerospace firms, and ruling party as the reason for recalling its ambassador. These attacks, which began two years ago, targeted the governing Social Democrats and companies in logistics, defense, aerospace, and IT sectors. Berlin refrained from disclosing specific damages for security reasons.

Zakharova condemned what she described as an information war waged by the West against Russia, characterized by fictitious and false narratives aimed at instilling fear about Russia.

“The recall of the German ambassador from Moscow is nothing but another unfriendly step to fuel anti-Russian sentiments in Germany, leading to further deterioration of bilateral ties,” Zakharova asserted. “The entire responsibility for this lies with the German side.”
